In Memory of David my oldest friend for over 63 years - Cliff Arnold

Created by Cliff 3 years ago

So privileged to have joined the family at the Crematorium to honour and remember David whose friendship has blessed me for over 63 years. We met in 1957 at the Royal Exchange in London where we both worked and began to enjoy stimulating discussions. I remember going to his home in Boreham Wood on several occasions including Stephen's first birthday party.  (Sharon has a photo of this occasion)

In early 1970 our head office moved to Ipswich and our families met up quite regularly with outings at the weekend. It was the beginning  of the renewal movement and homegroups.  We had regular meetings at David & Beryl's home taking our 2 young boys to sleep upstairs and then carried back to our car very late at night.

It was at this time that David and Beryl came into a new experience of the holy spirit. This had a profound impact on me and David patiently and gently helped me in my own journey. To me it was like a David and Jonathan experience.

Although a job move meant leaving Ipswich there were happy memories of meeting up over the years and reuniting with the  whole family on David's 80th birthday.  After the sad death of Beryl David became a frequent visitor to our home.  And it was my great privilege to be David's best man at his marriage to Jenny in 2016.

So David, in the words of the apostle Paul, I thank my God for every memory of you and all the richness of friendship you have brought into my life.  I have lost a dearly beloved friend.
